It is time for my next recommendation for a book!
The great influenza is a beautiful narrative of the pandemic of 1918 and many lives that it affected.
John Berry masterfully describes the characters of physicians and scientists who dedicated their lives to the pursuit of discovery and cure of the influenza virus. It is the biography of ambitious, altruistic, eccentric, and willful men and women who were on a mission to win the battle against a microscopic organism that devastated America And the rest of the world. You may not know that the Spanish flu did not originate in Spain. In fact the Spanish flu came from America. The reason it got its name it was because the Spanish reported on the virus much more freely than any other country. I think you would enjoy reading this book although it is voluminous.
